My Yamaha 800 series was made in 1998, and took a LONG time to sell before I bought it on eBay. I remember that the Armstrong Heritage flutes were made by a well known master craftsman- who was it, guys, and what era? Also, many new techniques in headjoint making have been taken advantage of, and the newer flutes are usually easier to play well. Modern flutemaking and newer scale designs do make a difference, though. Powell made himself inthe 60's, or a vintage Haynes, or even an original Louis Lot can be a real treasure. If I want to use it with my standard wall Heritage (Ser # H 1084) I have to insert a shim with it.Quite a few people play on antique, or even just older flutes which were made by some of the masters of flutemaking.

I found a David Wimberly head joint that gives it excellent response and tone over the full range of the instrument, and had it sized to fit the Armstrong receiver by Jeff Denning. The embouchure hole was almost rectangular, and took a tank of air. MY thinwall Heritage (Ser # H2070) also had a disgustingly unresponsive head joint. The tubes are either 958 britannia or 946 Altus silver, 3 cuts, etc. These are generally the same thickness as gold tubes and will fit or can be reasonably sized to fit a small barrel. Altus makes 2 thin walled headjoints, both handmade seamed tubes for our 16 series. As with some of the old Haynes thin walls, you can go for a Gold headjoint. Thin wall flutes have few choice options unless you ream the barrel larger. What options do you suggest for a new headjoint that would fit and complement it? I assume trying to sell it 'as is' would fetch ~$500 and an overhaul seems hard to justify. The diameter of the barrel of my Heritage measures 20 mm. I have had trouble finding a new head joint that fits-they are too big. I am not happy with the head joint-it seems stiff in harsh, especially in the high register-seems to need a lot of air and air speed compared to the more silky higher register I have found with my Yamaha 471. I had a Yamaha 600 series and a Murumatsu but they did not come anywhere near this flute. What options do you suggest for a new headjoint that would fit and complement it? Heritage BY ARMSTRONG ELKHART H-3529 I have a heritage flute and a55b flute sometimes called a heritage 11 the one you are talking about I would suspect to be a hand made thin wall thats ths reason the other head joints don,t fit.mine has a beautiful high register with great projection no effort to play. It has french pointed arms on the non-open holes of the body.
